I think people are overreacting regarding the garbage in the base. There is a lot of it but you can simply pile it in a corner and slowly chip away at it while you wait for your signals to finish. The real issue is that garbage bags cost credits, and you need at least 200 of them assuming you don't break any. That's 600 credits. My suggestion is to make the garbage bags free.

A major oversight however is the dirtiness of the base. The only way to clean the grim off is with the power washing gun from the treehouse, which means you have to wait 31 days before you can clean the base. If you've passed the day which the event happens and reset events then you can't get the gun anymore unless you already obtained it and put it in the mailbox. If it fell out of the world like it did for me then there's nothing you can do. A power washer should be added to the store.

There also needs to be a save state for the base between updates otherwise players will be forced to clean EVERY.SINGLE.UPDATE and that's simply unacceptable.

Food tolerance is a terrible idea and should be removed.

The game also lags terribly when sleeping.

(1 edit) (+4)

Wait is THAT what the mailbox is for?!

Also just let us throw the garbage piles into the trash bin without needing a bag. We can do that with everything else, why can't we with the trash mountains? Also I agree on the food tolerance, spoilage and temperature I'm fine with, but it has to be balanced. (EX: MREs are horrible in terms of credit efficiency, so they should be immune to spoilage. Shrimp Packs are considered the best, so they should spoil very quick unless put in the freezer.)

(+9)

honestly, yeah, MREs shouldn't spoil, thats like their whole thing irl

The mailbox saves items from reset and items in it exist between all save files. You can't add items from sandbox and use them in the other gamemodes though.

(+1)

I wish I knew that before I reset my last save.

(+1)

I feel like the power washer would be a great item for the store, maybe even let the player dig it up?

I'll be honest, the new update is terrible. I had to start a new file to try the new things, I go to the base and it's a disaster with that garbage, I don't know what to do with them, I had to use cheats to recover the points and everything. I started to clean the base by throwing the garbage near the bunker, since I can't throw the garbage in the garbage can (????), I literally spent 5 minutes cleaning and closed the game because it became boring, I mean it had nothing to do with what the game is about. I literally couldn't try anything new just because cleaning the base is tedious. Imagine someone who has been playing this game for a long time and got bored after 5 minutes, now imagine someone who is playing for the first time...

Bro this update is great because garbage is literally free money, for like 4 garbage rolls you get 150 points, and if cleaning is still boring for you then you can clean your base while downloading signals as a side task. Tho the main issue i can agree on is that nothing in the game tells you that you can sell garbage and get money for it.

(+4)(-5)

New update features are boring as helL

(+1)

how to enable craftin

(1 edit)

My sleep and hunger meter drops really fast. During a sleep everything lags very much. I don't know if these are errors or it has to be that way.

Difficulty affects hunger and sleep draining speed, maybe you turned up the difficulty and forgot about it?

(1 edit)

Is hunger supposed to drain at 0.1% per second on normal difficulty? Cuz that's the speed it drains for me.

(+2)

can someone explain the recycling system to me? the book in the garage doesn't help me that much.

(+1)

You gotta put ingredients (garbage) onto the workbench in the garage and "use" the workbenches surface

There's no point to it yet though, bc the scraps aren't useful for anything that I know of and selling them in the item box barely gives you any money

Wait what, you can sell items in VotV?

(+1)

Yeah, buy the "item box" (bottom of the essentials tab in the newest update) put whatever items you want to sell inside of it, and send it off the same way you would with the drive boxes

(Items are sold at 75% the value you bought them at)

thanks.

ive downloaded the file but no clue how to actually use it to play the game please hel

you need to use 7-zip to open the file, here's the download link for it: https://www.7-zip.org

its not working ;-;

(1 edit) (+9)(-5)

I just don't see how food spoilage/cooking, garbage collecting, or even fishing really enhances the gameplay at all. These kinds of meticulous activities weren't the tasks that made the game fun or unique. It was the signals, aliens/phenomena and atmosphere that were the hooks the game had.

With these kinds of features being added it's gonna turn into some sort of survival/viscera cleanup detail game with aliens. I really don't think that's the best trajectory for what the game already offered.

The only aspect of the game I had concerns with was the downtime after completing the daily task since it was fairly boring just readying a bunch more signals for the following day. Maybe the garbage/food spoilage/cooking/fishing were meant to fill that void but it just doesn't seem fun/in the spirit of the game especially when you have to use your points to clean up the trash. Maybe the fishing could be interesting but food spoilage and cooking, from reading other comments, seems very meticulous and unnecessary when you needed to spend your limited points on food to begin with.

(+4)

Yah, these things don't really fit the general vibe and atmosphere that makes the game so great. I can potentially see crafting being nice if its refined more and perhaps fishing could find useful items or clues to secrets around the map, but as it stands right now it clashes with what the game is about, aliens, odd signals, and exploration of the map.

(+4)

I agree, I don't mind the fishing and the garbage cleanup (garbage bag rolls are coming), but the food spoilage system is really annoying, and the food boredom mechanic are downright unfun.

On the topic of the garbage, my only complaint is the sheer amount of it, and the dirt problem. I spent the first 4 days of the game obsessively cleaning it because I couldn't stand seeing it EVERYWHERE.

There's a good chunk in this latest update that killed large amount of the excitement I had for it. I appreciate things to do when I'm not doing my tasks, but I think some of it is bordering on vibe-killing.

Especially having to plug in electronics. I now have to have my base layout with appliances focused entirely around those plugs, and you can't plug 2 in at once.

It's annoying, and unnecessary.

(+4)

Yah the amount of trash is staggering. I counted 200 balls of garbage alone, not even counting the debris scattered around the base and map. Also, as of right now, it's impossible to clean the base entirely because there's scum and dirt on the ceiling. Only the powerwasher has the ability to get up there and I don't think we can get that outside creative. This update indeed kills the vibe.

(+1)

I mean, you can reach the ceiling in the main room by climbing onto the workstation or onto the walls. You can even collide with the trash balls so you can stack a few to gain that bit of extra height.
Otherwise, I imagine using a cable to swing on the ceiling could work if you are patient enough. Although it would be better to just have a ladder or something you can easily carry and collide with.
Also, I looked in the creative menu and couldn't even find the powerwasher. I personally thought it was the device you can find from an event's structure that looked like a washer in Powerwash Simulator with a long range attachment. Trying to be vague for spoiler reasons.

It's labeled as a rifle for whatever reason, rifle_7 I believe, but its one of them. The others shoot other things.

I think it's all part of the plan, it's supposed to keep you distracted juust enough for your brain to forget it's a horror game.

(3 edits) (+3)

Alright, so I think I realized something about the food system now, at least partially since I haven't figured out spoilage yet. But I'll try to bump down the text if you want to experiment yourself.

This should be far enough

Food can't be too cold from being in the fridge for too long, but can't be too hot either (Not just because they will burn and be inedible, but because Kel will refuse to eat very cold / hot food despite eating a roach two nights ago)
Also, It seems like even if you get the temperature right, you have to consider if Kel is getting tired of eating the same thing. Like I ate an MRE fresh from the delivery, and I only got like 15-20 hunger back, so I tried eating a burger and I got around 40-50 hunger. Hence the "Tolerance" mechanic in the patch notes.

TL;DR - Eat not cold, not hot, but warm food, around 15 seconds is good for burgers and maybe 30 for MREs. And eat a variety of food to get the most of your food items.

(+7)(-2)

Yah, not a fan of the food changes. I kinda like the freedom of eating/ordering whatever. Also makes all the MREs you find around the map less valuable.

(+2)

Yep. When the character eats, it should always replenish the same amount of hunger. The tolerance mechanic is interesting, but it should be affecting other parameters, like sanity (or boredom, hello Project Zomboid :D), not hunger itself.

(+1)

I'm actually somewhat fine with temperature, it's the tolerance I'm not a fan of.

(3 edits) (+5)(-2)

For anyone curious, I counted around 200 trash heaps around the base, so around 600 credits so clean it all, combined with the time spent hauling each bag.

Also when the gunk is cleaned off the base is actually kind of cool looking, but it took several minutes even in creative with the power washer since everything has gunk on it, inside and out, ceiling, roofs, floors, and walls. It's impossible to clean all of it with the sponge.

(1 edit) (+2)(-1)

200 feels like an overstatement, I thought it was like a couple dozen, like 59 or so between the main room and bedroom. 100 max.

Edit: Just now found that big trash pile outside the main window... I can start to see how 200 is a possibility especially with you know where.

(+1)(-1)

Check outside.

(+1)

See original comment. Also I found it while trying to find... you know what? Just get the device near "The Hole", you'll need a shovel... You'll find out what I'm talking about in a non-spoiler way.

(+2)

I think a good solution to the trash/grime issue everyone's having right now would be introducing a purchasable mop of some type that cleans stuff at a faster rate than the sponge and pushes trash piles so we can get rid of them easier than using a trash bag. Either that or make it more obvious how to use the trash bag. I was pretty confused on how to use it because most of the usable items in the game are like "place me down then hit 4 and use to do something" whereas there wasn't really a "tutorial" for using it, I just kinda clicked stuff until it worked. Overall though any update is a good update :)

(+1)

A mop would be good, like you can hold left click to lock your camera and move just the mop in your hand. A part of why it's difficult to clean with the sponge is because you have to make Dr. Kel have a seizure whenever you clean things.
Maybe it could have a secondary use when you are done cleaning, like reaching on high shelves or sweeping small objects around. Or y'know, the shovel / crowbar treatment.

(+2)

The grime could be solved if we could buy the power washer you see in creative mode. Gets everything easy.

(+1)

Figured I might as well ask now, while the itch page is active. Why is the server minigame screen like this, and nothing else (My resolution is a custom setting, 1366 x 768 if that helps)
Literally the only thing that is wrong is the parentheses, and that is it. And I've seen youtube channels with it completely fine.

It was alright in 0.5.X, but when I updated to 0.6.1, it broke to this. Now I'm at 0.6.2 and it still looks like that.

(+2)

Also another thing. Does anyone get very laggy when they sleep now or is it just me?

(+1)

Well the frame rate does drop when you sleep, probably intentionally.

(+2)

That doesn't feel intentional, since it doesn't happen in the other versions, the "Saved" icon fades away with the same slow framerate, and I think I can physically hear my computer fans get faster and louder whenever I snooze.

(+4)(-13)

VOTV fans when the abandoned base in the middle of nowhere, in fact, isn't sparkly clean and pristine upon arrival: >:c

(+10)(-3)

It wasn't "pristine" on arrival before. But before it was manageable, now I can't even figure out how to get rid of the mountains of trash piles.

(+2)(-13)

You use the trash bags, click on the piles while holding it, it's not exactly a very hard thing to grasp? I dunno, I think it's cool needing to work restoring the base.

(1 edit) (+8)(-2)

I shouldn't have to pay to clean up the actual mountains of garbage, besides there's garbage cans outside. Why can't we use them? It was fine before and many others seem to agree.

(+3)(-14)

It...costs 2 credits my dude, you can clear it out day 1. Holy mother of overreaction.

(3 edits) (+10)(-2)

3 Credits, and they hold one trash pile each. In addition the bags are fragile AF. If you tap them wrong they break and the trash pours back out. Listen I'm entitled to my opinion just like you are yours, but the way you're going at everyone who disagrees with you is not gonna help you win anyone over.

(+1)

why are you being such a cunt about it bro?

(+6)

The question remains, what does including all that trash add to the game?

(4 edits) (-1)

Sorry to bring this up again, but is anyone having trouble getting the game to go into windowed mode? :< I had it right before and then downloaded the update and it reverted, any help would be appreciated! I can't really play since my computer's having trouble with it in full screen... :'D

(+1)

press alt + enter, then you can adjust the size of the window by clicking on the border.

Thank you!!

(+9)(-3)

Why so much trash? The base looks really bad now :(
I can understand creating a bit more of a mess but like
I can't look anywhere without some disgusting wall being in view or a pile of garbage that i'd have to work on for an hour to clear. Pls revert some of it at least :(

(+6)(-2)

Yah I've liked nearly every update, but this is the first time I've gone "ew, no".

(1 edit) (+12)(-4)

Why the fuck did you add so much trash? It ruins the game for me, I'm not spending an hour of my life doing shit I could do in real life that would be infinitely fucking times more productive. What the fuck is the point of this? I'm genuinely so pissed off at this. It makes the game borderline unplayable and I frankly don't even want to play it anymore.

(1 edit) (+8)(-4)

100% agree, I can't even get rid of the garbage and the walls will take forever to clean. Can't play, change it back.

(1 edit) (+7)(-3)

Why? Why did you ruin our nice looking base? I get the feeling we can't wash the walls.

Edit: Okay the walls can be washed, but why did you make it look like a nuke went off? Change it back.

(+1)

Why can't I get in story mode after installing 0.6.2? And why is it now a 7Z file?

(1 edit) (+12)(-1)

can the food spoiling mechanic be an option? i want to eat my food RAW like A MAN

also the food heat thingy, i eat my mres cold like a BIG BOY

(+3)(-1)

Agreed

(+3)(-19)

cool concept but endlessly frustrating and a gigantic fucking headache that can be instantly solved by getting rid of ATV health and getting rid of being ragdolled from high speed collisions

Is the radio station working as of Demo 0.6.1_b? I checked the wiki and tried to do as it says, to put .mp3 files inside the "music" folder (which is inside the "VotV" folder, near "pictures"). But it doesn't play the songs, displaying "none" near the "Status".

For the .mp3 files, I tried converting some songs into .mp3's using ffmpeg's libmp3lame codec, converting into .mp3's using a random online converter, and into .aac's. I relaunched the game as well, but the station still refuses to play them.

(+1)

In case anyone else is wondering, the wiki lies. The files should go to "C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\VotV\Assets".

I'm guessing that it was less of a lie and more of an update changed how it worked.

There is no "Assets", only "Save".

I can't rotate or toss anything that I hold. My game is Demo 0.6.1_b, which is the one marked as recent. I have zero idea what could possibly be going on.

(-2)

Why, when i click on Start i can play only tutorial? whats wrong? thank you

(+1)

You have to finish the Tutorial before you can play other modes.

please tell me what to do if all 3d models uploaded to the printer look like black and purple

you need to add the texture file to the \printers\ folder as a .png with the same name as the .obj mesh

I've gotten Jupiter like 5 times as a signal and it's only day 4. Is my game bugged or is this just rng going brr?

Version 0.6.1 (experimental)
Minor audio bug: Footsteps are still making the sound of walking in water despite being on land. Occured when I crossed the river while holding my ATV and surfaced just near the base.

(+3)

In other words, soggy Kel mode unlocked.

(+1)

Update: Jumping into the base's water changed the type of water footsteps I make to the same kind made in that body of water. Going back into the river changed the footsteps back to river water steps. The issue is resolved upon reloading.

(+1)

My garage door padlock is bugged and won't let me put in the code and it did the same with the pass files what do I do?

(1 edit)

SPOILERS

I'm just gonna assume it's the event that happens later in the game. Go outside via the front door, climb to the top of the tower and it should work again.

(+1)

Sorry if this was asked before already, but are custom posters/pictures/rugs broken right now? I've followed a tutorial and looked up some posts on the internet, but still no dice.

I dumped the images on the correct folder, converted to PNG, changed their dimensions/name and even fiddled with their Bit Depth, but nothing seems to work.

Are these bugged on this version or am I doing something really wrong? Whenever I interact with the item (Use), I only hear the interaction sound, but the image doesn't change...

(+1)

I dont know if they are broken in the newest version, (didnt test yet) but the folder was changed some updates ago.
Look at the older comments.
Custom content goes into "Appdata/Local/VotV" now.
Hope that helps

(1 edit) (+1)

Yep, one of the first comments I saw when I started looking this up was talking about how the folders were changed regarding the previous versions. I'm placing my custom images on "AppData\Local\VotV\Assets\(NameoftheItem)", but still no luck...
I'm also paying attention to put images in the correct location when it comes to paintings (Vertical, Horizontal, Square or Table), but without any success.
I have absolutely no idea as of why this is happening, so maybe it will be fixed in the next update...

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application.

I get this error while trying to launch the game im on the 0.6.1_b version. Previous ones worked normally, also i have all drivers and windows updated. I also tried redownloading file again and nothing. I have no clue what to do now. Anyone know the solution?

(+2)

When is there going to be speedruns?

(+1)(-1)

How would a speedrun in this game work when it's on a day cycle that can't be sped up past using Hard++ difficulty? Speedrunning getting all plushies? Speedrunning getting so many signals? How would this work?

(+9)

go to toilet speedrun

The correct answer.

(+2)

Seems to be a small bug with rugs where they're always hovering slightly above the floor.

(+1)

Not a bug but a feature to render them correctly

(+1)

Does this game have jumpscares?

(+2)

Not the screaming in your face kind at least. There are things that could be considered jumpscares, but they're subtle and usually avoidable.

No, but it might aswell with all the masterful tension that builds up the longer you play.

Outside of that, it's a very immersive simulator (not the rpg kind)

This game is AMAZING! I absolutely love it.
Recently however I ran into an issue where I alt tabbed in and out of the game quite quickly and my whole pc stopped responding and I had to reboot. This is not a big issue as it is most likely due to my AMD graphics card not handling things well BUT does mean the game has some issues with AMD compatibility.

Hi guys , can i continue playing after finishing story mode?

Technically yes, but the day counter won't increase.

what version has the boinky boof

If you mean the original player model, the last version was 0.5.2_3

(+1)

I think I just had a shovel clip into the floor. I dropped two, moved one to the wall, and couldn't find the second one.

(-1)

I'm sorry but I just can't figure out the radio or TV's online functions, and yes I've read the ingame Help section. Apparently I can put on a radio station, how the hell do I do that? Are there even links that aren't to an API? I'm a little confused for sure... Some help would be appreciated!

Sv.target home does not work now?
why?
what purpose does this serve by removing it?
it only serves to make the game more tedious

Was it ever sv.target home? It was always sv.target root as far as I'm aware.

root is even just one of the servers in the back of the main room, any of them could be targeted the same way

it's now sv.target alpha

I dont know why, but every time i try to play any other mode apart from the tutorial (which i completed) it still wont let me? only accessible thing is the tutorial

after you get the achievement "play tutorial" go to settings, and hit the "apply" button
